Pay Lags Behind Inflation
Overall Economy Keeps Growing, Commerce Dept. Says

Workers' pay and benefits rose more slowly than inflation in the second quarter, even as the U.S. economy expanded at a healthy pace, the government reported yesterday.

Employers' costs for wages, salaries and benefits rose 0.7 percent in the quarter, the same pace as in the first quarter and the smallest gain in six years, the Labor Department said.

A Day in the Life of an IT Recruiter: The Good, the Bad, & The Ugly
By Talent Scout

I was recently asked by a recruiter about developing "target lists" of companies to recruit and/or do client development. There are a few issues that I'll try to address related to database management for recruiting, contact management, and how to constantly build new names and relationships into your database. Contacts are the lifeblood of our business and critical to our success! http://www.hoovers.com and http://www.searchexpo.net/marketing/about.html are two that you may want to try.

For those that would like a quick and easy fix, there are countless numbers of companies that will sell you a list of names, titles, and contact information. Some are monthly fees with password and username while others may be imported into your database. Industry specific recruiters can also purchase industry specific lists from conferences with names and companies.

I'd like to point out that there are many free methods to obtaining wonderful information about the companies you'd like to work with or the professionals you'd like to recruit for your clients.

1. Internet Networking groups like www.plaxico.com and www.linkedin.com are taking off and are the way of the future!

2. To find all companies in any given market that run SAP R/3 Software, do a Boolean Search on Monster or Career Builder with "SAP AND TX" and simply start creating a list of all the companies that various SAP Professionals have worked at in their career.

3. As you grow your network through speaking with people in your industry, look where they have worked and add those companies into your database with all the contact information, website, and even a blurb on the history of the company if your software allows that.

4. Constantly ask the people you represent for references, not only to ensure that they are legit and to help you better represent them, but also to build your network. Flip reference calls into recruiting and business development calls.

5. Use Google or internet search engines. I recruit in SAP. If I'm trying to break into any company, the first thing I do is go to Google and type in "CIO SAP Nestle" if Nestle is the Target Client. Or try "SAP Manager Nike". Read articles in industry magazines like CIO Magazine or InfoWeek and see which managers names are quoted in case studies.

6. To break the email code of a company, you can try a couple of things. See if anyone is using their work email on the resume on a job board like Monster. Search the company name in conjunction with the city of the company headquarters. Secondly you can google "@agedwards.com" using the url of the company's website. Most often you can search through the results and see that this company uses the "FirstName.LastName@agedwards.com" format. The only problem is when companies use middle initials....

7. The final thing I want to mention has to do with properly coding very specific titles within your industry. Being able to properly retrieve information and recontact very targeted groups of people 3-5 years can be essential to your success in recruiting. Because of my database management and attention to detail as well as specialization in a niche, I can complete deep market penetration on a search in 3-4 days when it takes other firms 2-3 weeks.

Good Luck and I hope some of these ideas are helpful for you!
