Monster Employment Index Reports Online Job Demand Eases Slightly in July

-- Slight Decrease in Online Job Availability Likely Reflecting Minor Seasonal Slowdown in Hiring

-- Online Demand Remains Strong in Professional Categories, Especially for Workers in Business & Financial Operations, Legal, Education and Training Library

-- Industries Showing Greatest Increases in Online Job Availability Include Manufacturing, Finance & Insurance, Wholesale Trade, Professional/Scientific & Technical Services, Agriculture, Construction, and Management of Companies and Enterprises

Overall demand for workers and related online job recruitment activity across the United States eased back slightly in July, yet remained near its high mark for the year, according to the Monster Employment Index. Marking the Index's first month of decline since December 2003, the modest contraction in online job availability in July potentially reflects a seasonal slowdown in recruitment. Nevertheless, online job demand remained strong within a variety of industries and professional categories during the month.

Imagine you are walking down the aisle at your favorite supermarket.

Now imagine that every product looks the same. Instead of colorful packaging, every product has a black and white label. There are no pictures of the product. Each container looks exactly like the one next to it.

Creative packaging and product labeling are vital elements in creating a unique user experience that differentiates a product from its competitors.

The question is “Does recruitment marketing work in the same way?”

The answer is yes.

A brand without distinctive packaging
leaves your audience dazed and confused.

Think of Web posting sites (Monster, HotJobs, CareerBuilder, etc.) as “career supermarkets.” Your job postings are the products that line the shelves. Candidates walk through these virtual career supermarkets in much the same way as they walk through traditional supermarkets. They know what they want. They have opinions about certain products and companies. But, their minds are open to a better deal and to new information.

Now think about how your products (Web postings) are packaged.

Ouch! You probably don’t like what you see. But, you may be thinking that you don’t have much control over your Web postings. In fact, you probably have much more control than you ever imagined.
