Where The Jobs Are?
By Execunet

Where The Jobs Are

A recent ExecuNet survey of 186 executive recruiters reveals where search firms are anticipating the greatest job growth. The Financial Services and High-Tech industries are beginning to heat up. According to the survey, the industries expected to generate the most executive-level jobs during the next three months include:

Current Ranking (November 2003 Ranking)

1. Healthcare (#2)
2. Medical/Pharmaceuticals( #1)
3. Financial Services (#5)
4. High Tech (#6)
5. Business Services (#4)
6. Consumer Products (#3)
7. Manufacturing (#7)
8. Communications (#9)
9. Electronics (#10)
10. Internet (#13)

The Retailing industry (#8 in November 2003) was not ranked among the top ten industries expected to create the most executive-level jobs in the next three months. While the Medical and Healthcare industries have been a bright spot in the employment market for some time, demand for executives in the Financial Services and High Tech industries is making an impressive comeback. Executives in these industries should see an increase in new job opportunities in the months ahead. Recruiters continue to expect companies will concentrate much of their new hiring on positions that generate revenue. The functions expected to be in greatest demand during the next three months include:

Current Ranking (November 2003 Ranking)
1. Sales (#1)
2. Marketing (#2)
3. Business Development (#4)
4. General Management (#3)
5. Operations Management (#5)

Companies are still looking for rainmakers. Having set new revenue targets at the start of the year, businesses in all industries are trying to find top talent that will help them achieve their goals.

Final Note - On The Lighter Side

A young businessman had just started his own firm. He had just rented a beautiful office and had it furnished with antiques.
He saw a man come into the outer office. Wishing to appear the hot shot, the businessman picked up the phone and started to pretend he had a big deal working. He threw huge figures around and made giant commitments.

Finally he hung up and asked the visitor, "Can I help you?"

"Yeah, I've come to activate your phone lines."
