10 Studies About Internet Usage
By Davis Advertising

1. The top career and development sites

One way of evaluating the potential success of a web site for recruitment advertising is to look at the number of unique visitors per month. Here are the latest figures for career sites.

Site   Unique Visitors/Month
Monster.com   10,774,000
Yahoo! Hot Jobs   3,545,000
CareerBuilder   3,342,000
USAJOBS   1,270,000
AOL Careers   1,120,000

2. Age of the U.S. Online Population

Who says only the younger adults are online? Of the adults online, 23% are between 30 and 39, but they make up about the same percentage of total adults at 22%. The 50 to 64 age group, on the other hand, makes up only 18% of the total adult population in the United States and 24% of the online crowd.

Age   Adults online   All Adults
18-29   28%   22
50 to 64   24%   18
30 to 39   23%   22
40 to 49   23%   20
65+   5%   16

3. Satisfaction with advertising for employment opportunities

When candidates look for satisfaction in their job search, they rank newspaper and Internet as the best. No other media option even comes close.

Direct mail   27%

4. Media users at work

When looking for media at work with advertising that is rich in information, the Internet wins – hands down.

8. Internet usage varies by region

If you thought you at least knew that California had the greatest percentage of Internet users, you would be wrong. The Pacific Northwest and New England have a larger percentage of online users than California.

Pacific Northwest (OR, WA)   68%
New England (CT, ME, MA, NH, VT, RI)   66%

9. Daily access activities

So what do Internet users do online? Here’s a chart that shows what kinds of things they do on a typical day. No surprise…e-mail is biggest winner.

10. Those looking for a job online

The number of American’s who have looked for a job online has climbed 60% since March 2000. That’s a pretty powerful argument for including Internet in your recruitment planning. These online job seekers tend to be:
