Beginning this month, Peopleclick will be bringing to our readers a monthly articled dedicated to Diversity Recruitment on the web. As part of these efforts one must realize that Internet access by multicultural audiences has doubled during the past two years, but the technology is still being adopted a slower pace, according to a study by Access Worldwide Communications, Inc. Therefore when creating an active Diversity recruitment campaign, we do not recommend the Internet as your only vehicle of choice. As part of a Diversity Recruitment effort, it is important to understand how African American professionals utilize the Internet for both business and pleasure. In reference to the study completed by Access Worldwide Communications, their findings as it relates to African Americans utilization of the web are as follows: African Americans are more apt than the general population to use the Internet for career advancement and professional development, family/relationship themes, education, entertainment and exploring hobbies and interests. Unlike the general market, this group is less likely to use the Internet to look for financial or technological information online. Another research study completed by the Pew Internet and American Life Project, found that African Americans who earn greater than $60,000 annually, utilize the web in the following manner: 69% Listen to music on the web45% Play games on the web38% Seek information about jobs20% Have conducted school research The data provided in these research findings allow us to go beyond traditional career sites, and reach out more successfully to our intended population.
